Testing

An untested plan is as good as no plan at all. That may be a little extreme but it certainly
makes your plan little better than a strategy. Finding the speed bumps in your plan requires
that you try it out. This can be done in an active or passive format. If you have never tested
your plan before then a passive test is the way to go. In fact several passive tests should be
undertaken before actually trying an active or live test. Passive tests are table top exercises
that do not bear the same cost and disruption load that a live test would. Passive tests
should be run once or twice a year as they not only serve to find any potential flaws in your
plan but also provide education and training for your staff. BARIC has many years of
experience in developing test scenarios, scheduling tests, test preparation and execution.
We can lead you through the process.

The BARIC consultant(s) assigned to the engagement will:
o Consult with client resources in the design and delivery of a Test Overview including
Scope, Objectives, Scenario Description and a Test Agenda.
o Review Action Item List from previous Exercise.
o Conduct a high-level review of the existing Recovery Plans. This is required for BARIC's
understanding of the client's current strategies. BARIC will not audit the plans however any
major omissions or gaps discovered as part of this review will be identified to the client prior
to the test.
o Recommend action items to address gaps.
o Prepare session materials such as a detailed scenario description, all presentation materials
and session logs. The client will ensure participants have copies of their relevant Recovery
Plan documentation.
o Provide session management and facilitate discussions as well as provide a session report
to include observations, findings and recommendations. This report will be provided to the
client project management team.

The elapsed time for a table top exercise will be approximately 3 - 4 hours depending upon
discussions and review of the Action Item Log at the conclusion of the session. The elapsed
time for a live test can be one or more days depending on the complexity of the test and the
need to restore live environments.

BENEFITS:
o
Find any problems with the plans before you really need to use them.
o Provides education and training to your staff
o Minimizes staff disruption
