Methodology

Every Business Continuity Program consists of three basic elements - Assessment, Development,
and Management. Each element has several components geared towards the design and
implementation of a viable Business Continuity Program (BCP).

Assessment
The first element is used to assess a company's current situation - what are the potential risks and
strategies that could impact the company's ability to serve its customer base. The following
components make up the Assessment phase of the BCP:
o Corporate BC Program Development
o Impact Analysis (BIA, Criticality Analysis)
o Requirements Analysis
o Crisis Management Program
o Awareness Program

Development
During the Development phase of the BCP, a review of the first phase is conducted to ensure the
recovery details support the critical business functions/processes. During this phase, the following
tasks are performed:
o Training (Knowledge transfer)
o Strategy Development/Implementation
o Plan Development
o Distribution

Management
The on-going Management of the BCP will ensure the Plan is kept in a current state of readiness.
The following tasks will ensure the Plan will be usable at time of disaster:
o Training or Testing
o Ongoing Maintenance
o Plan Roll-Out
o Lifecycle Implementation
